America by Heart by Sarah Palin

The former Alaska governor and vice presidential candidate follows up her bestselling memoir with this collection of reflections on what makes America great.  She begins with a study of our founding documents and how their embodiment of freedom motivates men and women to serve in the military and defend those freedoms abroad.  She also references the writing of Tocqueville, who was captivated by the form of American democracy that created the American exceptionalism.  Palin also speaks candidly about her family's experiences with unexpected pregnancies and how strong and supportive families build the public virtue that is essential for our republic to endure.  She discusses various forms of public virture, including the religious foundation on which our country was built.  Finally, as a leader of the emerging pro-life feminist movement, she talks about the inner strength that these "Mama Grizzlies" possess and their desire to make America a better place.
